As I was watching I felt as empty as the sorry teens in the "movie" Not sure what to think. I was very unsettled by the emptiness I felt. It was either brilliant or a huge flop and I am not sure which of the two I think is more the case. Disturbing is a good word. Disturbing in it's depiction of these lost kids, in a lost soulless society where materialism and stuff trumps the need to connect. Oh, and where were their parents.? Between the drugs and the loads of loot you'd think they'd notice SOMETHING. These were teens. Wasn't there a single adult who noticed anything?

I got tired of seeing all the robbery without any real reason behind it. I think if they focused a bit more on the aftermath it might have been better. I felt a little like I was in a reality show.

Good performances from the young actors, and a great from-real-events premise, but it got somewhat repetitive in the middle, with too many too-familiar scenes of characters out-of-control when given too much access too quickly to drugs and money.

The Bling Ring is at once compelling and disturbing. Coppola does a magnificent job in bringing her characters to life and also exposing the greed and mindless consumerism that not only consumes them but the celebrities whom they robbed.

I enjoyed this film. Sofia Coppola really evoked emotions towards these kids that I felt were appropriate for the situation. You leave feeling like they were a bunch of dumb-asses who worshipped "stuff" which is really shallow but at the same time you know they had some guts to do what they did. I liked the flow of the film and the fact that it's true makes it even more interesting. There's a really great build up to the denouement. I was anxious as they flaunted through celebrities houses, constantly thinking of how awful it would be to get caught. The pervasive drug use might be seen as a negative for teens to witness but if they're mature they can see the film without thinking they need to go out and snort coke to be cool. Again, I like the film. Not amazing or a blockbuster, but still a pretty cool little flick. My favourite character was Chloe played by Claire Julien. Very believable little hippie who doesn't give an eff. Well done!
